Does epic mean "impressive" or just "big"? Noun When epic began to be used as an adjective in English it was in specific reference to the characteristics of the type of poem that bears the same name. More recently, epic has been found used in a highly colloquial fashion, in a manner that is largely synonymous with outstandingfabulousor impressive. Before you pass judgment on whether this new sense of epic is acceptable to you or not, you might want to consider that all the words that this sense is synonymous with have also changed their meanings dramatically:

Students continued working on their good copies of their short paragraphs, and began reading about some heroic actions and how one person overcame fear courageously. Students began research on their Hero.
Students will eventually be asked to write a few paragraphs signifying why this person is a hero, create a poster, and present to the class.
Students were meant to do research, but since we had a power outage, we had to stay in class- students had a chance to read about great heroes and catch up on missed work.
Students then wrote a journal about a time when they had been reactive, and applied the proactive steps to think about how they could've changed their response. Today we discussed heroes, heroic characteristics, and how we can determine what makes someone a hero.
More hero discussions- we read aloud some stories about potentially heroic figures and discussed if they fit into our hero concepts. We also chatted about whether proactive language was being used in the stories.
We continued reading about heroes and students were given time to get caught up on some assessments from their folders that they may not have completed yet.
Today, we only spent about half an hour together, discussing the course plan for the year, as well as student expectations. Students have been asked to ponder this poem: We will discuss their guesses and the poem tomorrow. We discussed yesterday's poem, and answered the riddle: We discussed our own habits - good and bad and how we could overcome the bad ones.
Students were then asked to discuss goals for this year, as well as some of their very best characteristics. We also discussed the evidence record, and how it works.
Today we completed our "Who Am I" handouts discussing our characteristics and positive traits.
